My Neurologist, Dr. Jennifer Davis, first discussed Deep Brain Simulation [DBS] with Pam and I around August, both the pros and cons… in reality (at least for me) there cons were minimal! I have been dealing with tremors since around 2012. Many of my additional issues were addressed in the Follow up to Vol. 1, How it all began.
I had made such good progress with medications and the Rock Steady Boxing, Covington, Washingtion program… but at the same time I got a little concern about it declining, or failing to continue to make positive progress in stalling Parkinson’s relentless attacks to control me. I felt if the DBS could slow those attacks, or allow me stay “even” I was all in. The depression, that also came with my Parkinson’s was now at a manageable place.
I am a simple man, but will try to explain it as I understand it. DBS uses neurostimulator placed under the skin of the chest like a pacemaker. It sends electrical signals through a wire lead to an area in the brain that controls movement. To give relief, they block some of the brain messages that cause movement of Essential Tremors.
I am looking at a Medtronic DBS which can help with everyday activities, with less tremors and less disability. https://www.medtronic.com/…/getting/dbs-products.html
